First Night of September Fashion Week 2011

It's that time of year again and this season I was able to participate in the first night of fashion week. I found myself at Fifth avenue midtown, and it was definitely the place to be. The sidewalks smelled and looked like perfume counters and every fashion fiend from the tri-state area jammed the entrances to participating stores. It was a challenge walking through the sidewalks, as fashionistas clicked away at models and celebrities, oblivious of other pedestrians.

I ended up at Rockefeller Center at the Channel Gardens which was bordered on either side by a red carpet connecting Fifth Avenue and the sunken rink. A rock band was on a stage in front of Prometheus and their music filled the entire plaza. There were eight models standing on red squares evenly spaced throughout the gardens. Each item of their outfit came from a different retailer at Rockefeller Center. Very clever advertising. The models were really nice and they were a pleasure to draw. They smiled and posed for every tourist that took their picture.
